Karr Barth Associates, Inc., an industry leader in providing
financial products and services to families, businesses, and major
corporations, announces the celebration of its 50th anniversary. As
one of over 145 U.S. branch and district offices of AXA Advisors,
LLC, Karr Barth has been a fixture in the Greater Philadelphia
region since 1967, and is guided by its rich history in the
community to make a difference in the lives of others.
“I could not be more proud to congratulate the outstanding
leaders and team at Karr Barth Associates – our Philadelphia branch
office – on its 50 years of success in the wealth management
industry,” said David Karr, Chairman of AXA Advisors. “I started my
career at Karr Barth as an intern, and learned the business from
the ground up under the tutelage of my father, George W. Karr, Jr.,
who founded the firm with Robert Barth. I am proud of the solid
foundation and strong legacy he passed along as an industry-leader
in the preservation of wealth.”
The firm originated in 1967, when Karr Jr. was tapped by AXA
Equitable, then known as The Equitable Life Assurance Society of
the U.S., to establish a new office in Philadelphia; he later
joined with Barth to form Karr Barth Associates in 1974. The two
achieved success by developing a cadre of support and resources for
financial professionals and stakeholders – including
first-of-its-kind training on executive benefits and estate
planning strategies, access to advanced underwriters, and early
adoption of innovative technology – to provide customers with
top-notch products and services. While he retired from management
in 1994, Karr continues to remain active in the company today.
Since opening its doors a half-century ago, the firm has grown
to include office locations in Bala Cynwyd, Bethlehem, and
Lancaster, Pa., and Cherry Hill, N.J., as well as a recent
association with Firstrust Financial Resources in Center City,
Philadelphia. Today, the company employs over 400 financial
professionals and associates responsible for helping over 120,000
households in the region and across the country to work towards
their financial goals. Today, services include asset accumulation,
income protection, education funding, estate planning strategies
and wealth preservation strategies.
“From the very beginning, Karr Barth has been an industry
trailblazer, but one of the greatest differentiators has been our
drive to truly understand and adapt to serve the needs of our
valued clients,” said Timothy Maguire, chairman of Karr Barth, who
started his career with AXA Advisors in 1990. “Our team – from the
highest levels of experienced financial professionals down to the
support staff, who are some of the best in the business – takes to
heart the notion that we are here to make a difference in the lives
of others. Whether it’s helping clients through critical financial
phases in their lives, adapting to use the latest technology in the
industry, training new leaders for the future, or connecting with
the needs of the community around us – we really just want to help
others. It’s at the core of all we do at Karr Barth.”
Community involvement is part of the fabric of Karr Barth, and
the firm operates with the belief that service to the community
gives a better understanding of how to meet their needs. Employees
have donated time and money to hundreds of local charitable and
philanthropic organizations over the years. Recent philanthropy has
focused on the firm’s annual involvement with events that benefit
the Cancer Center at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia; the
team has raised over $100,000 over the past three years. And since
2008, semi-annual blood drives for the American Red Cross have
donated 328 pints of blood, saving up to 984
lives. Additionally, Karr Barth continues to serve as a
corporate sponsor for the Anti-Defamation League and has partnered
with Living Beyond Breast Cancer, an organization that raises
awareness and funds for the disease.
“As we look to Karr Barth’s next 50 years, we hope to continue
to build on being an advocate for our clients, helping them to
navigate current and future decisions, interpret opportunities and
assist them in solving their problems quickly, through our unique
and personalized customer experience, as we provide our financial
professionals with the superior tools, technology, and resources
they need to succeed,” said Maguire.
