U.S. Bank customers now have access to fast, simple and secure digital payments with Masterpass by Mastercard when shopping in-store with an Android device at participating merchants. Customers can also leverage Masterpass to make purchases in-app or online, U.S. Bank and Mastercard announced today.

From purchasing a train ticket, buying groceries, splitting the check or paying right at a restaurant table, Masterpass simplifies the checkout experience across a wide array of retailers. U.S. Bank customers that use Android devices can use this service at more than six million contactless-enabled merchants across the globe. Masterpass is also accepted at hundreds of thousands of merchants for seamless online and in-app payments.

“Joining forces with Mastercard to offer a digital payment solution gives our Mastercard customers the flexibility to pay how they choose,” said Clifford Cook, head of product and marketing for the U.S. Bank Retail Payments Services Division. “By using Masterpass, our customers can know with confidence that they are paying with trusted technology, whether they are a small business buying equipment at an office supply store or a family of four dining at their favorite neighborhood restaurant.”

Masterpass stores all payment information, including card details from both Mastercard and other payment networks, shipping information, and payment preferences in one convenient, secure place. It leverages the most advanced methods of payment security available today, including tokenization, which ensures information is protected.

“People value the relationship they have with their chosen financial institution and we think that should remain at the center of the digital experience,” said Jess Turner, EVP Digital Payments, Mastercard. “The Masterpass acceptance network will provide U.S. Bank users an easy, intuitive and low friction shopping experience at leading merchants. It enables consumers to pay for the things they want with the security they demand.”

With Masterpass, U.S. Bank users can make purchases via merchant apps or online by simply clicking the Masterpass button and authenticating to complete a transaction. In-store, users simply tap to pay at contactless-enabled merchants and get on their way.
