PALO ALTO, Calif., April 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Varian
Medical Systems (NYSE: VAR) will demonstrate its full range of
radiation oncology delivery systems at the 36th ESTRO
(European Society for Radiotherapy & Oncology) meeting, taking
place in Vienna from May 5th -May
9th. The Varian booth features the company's
technology and products for radiotherapy, radiosurgery,
brachytherapy, and proton therapy, and will focus on innovations in
oncology hardware and software.
Visitors to the Varian booth (No. 4000) will be able to learn
more about the company's new HyperArc™* high-definition
radiotherapy system, which exploits specific capabilities of the
TrueBeam® and Edge™ platforms and is designed to deliver more
compact radiation doses that may fully saturate a targeted tumor
and "fall off" sharply outside the target zone, potentially
minimizing dose to specific organs requiring more
protection.
"This exciting new technology unlocks the potential of using
highly non-coplanar treatment strategies to usher in a new era of
precision in radiotherapy and radiosurgery for cancer patients,"
says Kolleen Kennedy, president of
Varian's Oncology Systems group. "It is designed to automate
and simplify sophisticated treatments such as Stereotactic
Radiosurgery (SRS), and make them available to more cancer patients
around the world."
Also on display at the Varian booth will be the company's
TrueBeam® platform for radiotherapy and radiosurgery, along with
the RapidArc® image-guided intensity-modulated radiotherapy system,
as well as Varian's range of advanced brachytherapy software and
hardware.
Varian will also exhibit recent additions to its powerful family
of oncology software products, including the 360 Oncology™ care
management platform, the first software system designed to
integrate and coordinate key elements of cancer care so patients
and their cancer teams can collaborate on achieving the best
outcomes. 360 Oncology is designed to bring together in a single
platform, radiation, medical and surgical oncology, social
services, primary care physicians, as well as the patient, to
facilitate true collaborative and coordinated care. Other software
highlights include the latest versions of Varian's ARIA® oncology
information and Eclipse™ treatment planning systems.
Additionally, the Varian booth will spotlight the company's
ProBeam® system, a fully-integrated image-guided IMPT
(intensity-modulated proton therapy) solution, which incorporates
pencil-beam scanning technology to optimize the dose applied to
every point within the area being treated. ProBeam has been
selected to equip multiple proton therapy centers around the world,
including several in Europe.
Varian is hosting an international oncology summit for customers
to kick off its ESTRO activities on May
5th at the Hilton Vienna and other ESTRO events
include a Varian lunch symposium on Sunday
May 7th.
