The American Cancer Society honored Dave S. Hattem, Senior Executive Director, General Counsel, AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company at the 54th Annual Gala of Hope held at Fox Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, New York on September 22nd, 2016.

Hattem leads AXA’s law department, including compliance, government relations and corporate secretary’s functions, helping the company navigate the legal and regulatory environment to achieve its strategic goals. Earlier in his career, Hattem served as a federal prosecutor in Brooklyn, where he took great pride in his service to the community as part of the United States Department of Justice.

“We’d like to share our congratulations with Dave on this achievement, and are pleased to recognize him for receiving this prestigious honor from the American Cancer Society,” said Mark Pearson, President and CEO of AXA Financial.

Dollars raised from the gala help the American Cancer Society fund cancer research, education and screening initiatives, the passage of health and life-saving laws, as well as direct services for cancer patients, caregivers and families—benefiting Long Islanders, as well as countless others across the country and around the world.

“Our mission is simple,” said Beth Ann Tolentino of the American Cancer Society. “We work to save lives and celebrate life, every single day.”

In honor of Hattem’s recognition, the AXA Foundation made a grant of $25,000 to the American Cancer Society.

About American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society was created more than 100 years ago for one purpose—to liberate the world from the threat of cancer. We are advocates, researchers, volunteers, caregivers, survivors, patients and donors. Together, we are a united force of 2.5 million strong against all cancers. From prevention to diagnosis, from treatment to recovery, the American Cancer Society is here every step of the way. Thanks in part to our efforts, there has been a 23% decline in the cancer death rate over the past 21 years. That’s 1.7 million deaths prevented. We’re leading the way to transform cancer from deadly to treatable and from treatable to preventable.
