TOKYO—Sony Corp.'s PlayStation unit said on Friday it plans to release about five smartphone games in the next fiscal year.

Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc., the PlayStation unit, plans to unveil details of the smartphone games for Apple Inc.'s iOS and Google-parent Alphabet Inc.'s Android platform, the company's spokeswoman said. The launch would first be made in Japan, followed by other Asian countries. The company said it has no plans to release the smartphone games in Europe or the U.S. at this point.

The games, which would be released in the next fiscal year that starts from April, would use original game franchisees from its own software publishing arm, including "Hot Shots Golf," the spokeswoman said.
