Three Are Wounded in Street Shooting

Three people were shot and wounded when gunfire erupted on a street in Newark, N.J.

City authorities said the shooting occurred around 8:20 p.m. Saturday in the area of 15th Avenue and Bruce Street.

The three victims were being treated at a hospital and were listed in stable condition Sunday. Their names and more details on injuries haven't been disclosed.

A motive for the shooting remains under investigation. Further details about the shooting weren't disclosed, including what type of weapon was used and how many assailants may have been involved. No arrests have been made.

Two Small Planes Collide in Air, Crash

The Federal Aviation Administration said two small planes collided in the air and crashed south of Buffalo, N.Y.

The collision occurred around 9:30 a.m. Sunday in North Collins, the FAA said. One of the planes was a Cessna 120; the other was a Piper PA-28. Details on the extent of any injuries weren't immediately released.

The FAA said it will investigate, and the National Transportation Safety Board will determine the cause.

Two LIRR Stations to Get Upgraded

Work to overhaul two stations on the Long Island Rail Road is moving forward.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said work already has begun at the Hicksville Station. The $121 million project will add a new waiting room, platforms with enclosed, heated waiting areas, upgraded elevators and escalators and amenities like Wi-Fi and USB charging stations. The project is expected to be completed in 22 months.

Meanwhile, a $65 million project to build a new platform and tracks at Jamaica Station has been awarded. The new platform is expected to open in 2019.

Mr. Cuomo, a Democrat, said the work will provide "better, faster and more reliable" service to passengers.

Fire Damages Two Homes, Displaces 13

A fast-moving fire Sunday damaged two homes in Jersey City and displaced 13 residents, authorities said.

It isn't clear what sparked the blaze, which was reported around 9:10 a.m. No injuries were reported in the fire, which broke out in an area between the homes at 19 and 21 Bleecker Street. It took about 25 minutes for firefighters to contain the blaze.

Eight adults and five children who lived in the two homes were displaced by the fire.
