21st Century Fox increased the pay of Executive Chairman Rupert
Murdoch and his sons, Chief Executive James Murdoch and Executive
Chairman Lachlan Murdoch, citing their "exemplary achievements" and
their "contributions to drive the overall success of the
business."
In all, Rupert Murdoch made $34.6 million in 2016, up 24% from
$27.9 million a year earlier. In July 2015, he stepped down as
chief executive and his sons assumed elevated roles. James Murdoch
became CEO and Lachlan Murdoch became executive chairman.
James Murdoch's pay increased to $26.4 million from $15.1
million a year earlier, when he was chief operating officer.
Lachlan Murdoch made $23.7 million, compared with the $323,000 he
made as a director.
21st Century Fox and News Corp, parent company of The Wall
Street Journal, share common ownership.
Since July, Rupert Murdoch has also been chairman and acting CEO
of Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network after Roger Ailes
stepped down in the wake of a sexual-harassment scandal.
