County Environmental Services reduces energy usage and costs
with higher efficiency technology
The Dayton Power and Light Company (DP&L), a subsidiary of
The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), today is presenting Montgomery
County with energy efficiency rebates totaling $650,843.11 for
employing innovative strategies and installing technology that is
reducing their annual energy costs and improving daily
operations.
“The Montgomery County Commissioners are pleased to accept this
rebate from DP&L, which encourages sustainable energy usage in
our community,” said Montgomery County Commission President Judy
Dodge. “We also want to thank our staff at Environmental Services,
who worked so hard to improve our operations, save the County money
and be good stewards of the environment and public health.”
As part of a concentrated effort to reduce energy usage and be
more energy efficient, Montgomery County Environmental Services has
reduced its annual energy usage by installing energy-efficient
equipment and technology that has improved overall operations and
wastewater treatment. Before today’s rebate, DP&L has awarded
more than $200,000 in energy efficiency rebates to Montgomery
County for various energy-saving projects.
For this key project, Environmental Services installed high
efficiency LED lighting and replaced a jet aeration system with a
fine-bubble aeration system in multiple processing tanks at the
Western Regional Water Reclamation Facility. Energy savings
resulted from removing mixing pumps inside the tanks and reducing
the number of high-powered centrifugal blowers.
As a result, Montgomery County expects to reduce its annual
energy consumption by an estimated 7,989,227 kilowatt hours.
“Through smart planning and utilizing today’s energy-efficient
technology, Montgomery County is leading the way in using energy
more effectively and being fiscally responsible towards the
public,” said DP&L President and CEO Tom Raga. “DP&L is
proud to partner with the commissioners in their innovative efforts
to reduce energy consumption.”
DP&L’s ongoing energy efficiency efforts for customers
include rebates on installing new heat pumps and air conditioners,
discounts on energy efficient lighting and rebates for business
customers. See how to apply for rebates for increasing energy
