The first annual American Airlines Charity Golf Tournament raised more than $225,000 for three Dallas/Fort Worth-based charities including the Bush Institute’s Military Service Initiative, Komen Dallas County and American Airlines Education Foundation.
(From L-R) American Airlines CEO Doug Parker presents $75,000 checks to Retired Colonel Miguel Howe with The Bush Institute, Robin Hansen with Komen Dallas County, and Ron Defeo with American Airlines. The money was raised at the American Airlines Charity Golf Tournament in Dallas and will benefit military initiatives, breast cancer research and scholarships for the American Airlines Education Foundation.

"We are proud this tournament has raised so much for local causes and it means a great deal to the American family to host this event here in our hometown,” said American's chairman and CEO Doug Parker. "The important work of the Bush Institute, Komen Dallas County and the Education Foundation benefits those right in our own backyard and we were delighted to present them each with $75,000 donations today.”

The charities will use the money raised in a variety of ways all benefiting the local community. The Bush Institute, Military Service Initiative will use the funds to help aid their service to post-9/11 military families by bridging the civilian-military divide and fostering a successful transition and reintegration from military service to civilian life.

The mission of the Dallas County Affiliate of Susan G. Komen® is to ensure that all people of Dallas County, regardless of race, income, geographic location or insurance status, have access to life-saving breast health programs. They’ll use the donation for research, screening, diagnostics, treatment and treatment support services.

American Airlines Education Foundation will continue to support educational initiatives by funding college scholarships for dependents of airline employees.
