Corning Showcases Advanced Glass Innovations at Display Week 2016
May 24 2016 - 8:30AM
Enables the next generation of thin, durable, vivid
displays
CORNING, N.Y., May 24, 2016 -
Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) today announced it will exhibit
its advanced glass portfolio and share its expertise in the display
industry at the Society for Information Display's (SID) Display
Week, May 22-27, 2016, in San Francisco.
At booth #929, Corning will demonstrate the
innovative and unique ways it is helping to solve some of the
display industry's most complex challenges. Attendees will see
firsthand why Corning glass innovations - featuring a variety of
industry-leading attributes and benefits - are key components in
electronic devices used every day.
From the moment portable laptops replaced
cumbersome desktop monitors, Corning drew on its deep understanding
of glass science and leveraged its proprietary fusion-draw
manufacturing process to lead the display industry with its
superior liquid-crystal-display (LCD) glass that fueled the mobile
revolution.
As that momentum led to smartphones and tablets
with touchscreens, Corning created tough, beautiful
Corning®
Gorilla® Glass that
has been used on more than 4.5 billion devices worldwide. At the
same time, Corning continues to create new display glass solutions
to meet the demand for devices with increasing resolution and
thinness. Corning Iris(TM) Glass, for example, enables vivid,
large-screen TVs to be more slender than a typical smartphone.
Corning's booth will feature:
- Corning Iris(TM) Glass:
Recently named as a Display Component of the Year by SID, Iris(TM)
Glass is a revolutionary material used as a light-guide plate,
which enables set makers to design edge-lit LCD TVs that are less
than 5 mm thick. Iris(TM) Glass composition can achieve optical
performance that matches best-in-class materials and delivers high
transmission, and low-color shift. BOE Technology Group Co., Ltd.
will demonstrate an 8K 65-inch prototype with an impressive 3.8-mm
profile enabled by Iris(TM) Glass in its booth #717.
- Corning Lotus(TM) NXT Glass:
Lotus NXT Glass is designed to endure the high-temperature
manufacturing processes required to make cutting-edge displays with
richer viewing experiences. Its dimensional stability enables
energy-efficient devices with higher resolutions.
- Corning®
Gorilla® Glass for
Automotive Interior Applications: The unique combination of
elegance and durability offered by Corning Gorilla Glass provides
new design possibilities for automotive interior displays, such as
shaped or curved consoles and anti-glare and anti-reflective
treatments.
- Vibrant Corning®
Gorilla® Glass: A
multicolor, high-resolution printing technology with the durability
of Gorilla Glass. Vibrant Corning®
Gorilla® Glass
provides new design options for OEMs and their customers to display
photo-realistic images on handhelds and tablets while offering the
same protection and optical clarity they have come to expect from
the industry's leading cover glass, Corning Gorilla Glass.
"Corning is pleased to exhibit our
category-defining products in our booth at SID this year," said
John Zhang, general manager, Corning Display Technologies. "These
products are precisely designed, and engineered using
transformative manufacturing platforms, showcasing our
industry-leading capabilities."
Corning experts will also share their insights on
the display market and technology, presenting multiple papers at
the conference:
- "Effective Surface Treatment on the Cover Glass
for Auto-Interior Applications" with Dr. Jim Li, Corning technical
project manager, on May 25
- "Glass Innovation for Wearable Devices" with
Kevin Gahagan, Corning senior manager, technology strategy, on May
25
- "Damage Introduction of Ion-Exchanged Glass under
Dynamic Loading Conditions" with Scott Glaesemann, Corning Research
Fellow, on May 26
- "High Strength, Damage Resistant Display Panels"
with Hemanth Vepakomma, Corning attribute engineering lead, on May
26
- "Glass Light Guide Plate for Large Edge Lit LED
LCD TV Application" with Steven Rosenblum, manager, Corning Optics,
Lasers & Light Management, on May 27.
