MCLEAN, Va., Feb. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- CYREN (NASDAQ:
CYRN) today announced an innovative new Advanced Threat Protection
module that identifies and blocks highly evasive cyber threats with
an industry-first Cloud Sandbox Array. This next-generation
zero-day malware protection will be included in the latest version
of its SaaS web security offering, CYREN WebSecurity 3.0, to be
released on March 31, 2016.
"Evasive malware is an increasing challenge to first-generation
sandboxing solutions," said Richard
Stiennon, Chief Research Analyst for IT-Harvest. "CYREN's
new cloud-based Advanced Threat Protection – combining an array of
sandboxes, global threat correlation, and adaptive analysis – is a
multi-faceted approach that is needed to counter the most
sophisticated malware."
The Challenge of Highly Evasive Cyber Threats
Today's
sophisticated cyber threats increasingly leverage evasive
techniques that check if they are being run in a sandbox, and then
alter their behavior to avoid detection. This alteration might
include:
- disabling some or all malicious activity,
- modifying "in-sandbox" behavior to be different from real-world
behavior, or
- initiating multi-stage attacks that take a long time to
execute, and are thus not observed within the timeframe of the
analysis.
As a result of these kinds of techniques, advanced attacks can
often fool traditional, first-generation sandboxing solutions.
Elastic, Cloud-Scale Protection Using a Multi-Sandbox
Array
The new Advanced Threat Protection module applies
cloud-scale advanced malware analysis, including innovative new
multi-sandbox array technology to analyze unknown malware. Analysis
is coordinated by a heuristics-based engine that ensures malware
objects are completely analyzed, even those attempting to evade
detection. It also leverages big data analytics across the 17
billion Internet transactions that CYREN processes every day to
correlate the relationship between files, URLs, hosts, IPs, and
domains in order to identify malicious objects. Once malicious
files and URLs are identified, CYREN fingerprints and blocks them
across its global network within seconds, providing a "network
effect" of protection across all CYREN customers.
"Today's advanced attacks can easily fool traditional sandboxes,
allowing the bad guys to consistently break through," said
Lior Kohavi, Chief Technology
Officer at CYREN. "CYREN has built unique logic to decide what to
do with suspicious resources – before the threats contained within
can ever affect a single CYREN customer. This means that CYREN can
consistently identify and protect against more new and unknown
threats sooner than any other security vendor."
CYREN will highlight its new technology during the 2016 RSA
Conference February 29-March 3 in
booth #S2107 at San Francisco's
Moscone Center. Get a complimentary Exhibit Hall pass here.
