Howard Stern has signed on for another five years as a producer
and host with Sirius XM Holdings Inc. and will launch the satellite
radio service's first video programming venture.
Mr. Stern and the company announced the agreement Tuesday, which
also gives SiriusXM exclusive use of Mr. Stern's career audio and
video for 12 years.
The company said video plans, which will be detailed later, will
include footage of "The Howard Stern Show" as well as the Howard
Stern archives and special programming. Mr. Stern said in a news
release that "the baby we are about to have is our new streaming
video app."
Mr. Stern made the leap to satellite from terrestrial radio in
2004, a move seen as a boon for the then-nascent medium.
In 2012, a New York judge threw out Mr. Stern's lawsuit against
his employer over alleged breached of contract regarding stock
awards. Mr. Stern's production company as well as the radio
personality's agent claimed they were owed $330 million for helping
boost subscriber levels.
SiriusXM, which had about 600,000 subscribers when Mr. Stern
first signed, today reports about 29 million.
