Corning ONE(TM) Wireless Platform Enables Best-in-Class Fan Experience at Texas A&M Kyle Field Stadium
October 20 2015 - 8:30AM
CORNING, N.Y., OCTOBER 20,
2015 - Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) today announced the
deployment of its ONE(TM) Wireless
platform at Texas A&M University's Kyle Field.
One of the largest college football stadiums in
the U.S., the newly renovated home of the Texas A&M Aggies, now
includes a state-of-the art optical fiber infrastructure that
delivers increased capacity and more reliable wireless service. ONE
Wireless enables more than 100,000 fans to call, text, and tweet
about being at the big game - all at the same time.
"Texas A&M Chancellor John Sharp empowered us
to build a state-of-the-art facility - one that would rival or
surpass NFL stadiums as well as enhance upon Kyle Field's already
legendary game-day fan experience, truly the best in all of
collegiate sports," said Phillip Ray, vice chancellor of Business
Affairs for the Texas A&M University System. "He wanted iconic
Kyle Field to have the most-connected fans anywhere in the country,
and we are confident that the Corning ONE Wireless platform will
deliver just that."
The IBM-designed network includes Corning's ONE
Wireless Platform, the first all-optical solution to converge
nearly every wired and wireless connectivity need into a single,
unified infrastructure.
"IBM's collaboration with Corning went beyond the
typical manufacturer-integrator relationship," said Sam Maatallah,
vice president, Networking Services, Infrastructure Services -
North America, IBM. "Their commitment to innovation, coupled with
the inherent flexibility of the ONE platform, enabled a network
design that allows customers to engage the full complement of IBM
resources. Together, we functioned as one team, working to
deliver the ultimate connected fan experience in a world-class
football stadium."
ONE Wireless used half the space of, required
significantly less material than, and will use less power than
legacy copper-based networks or hybrid-fiber coax DAS solutions -
while delivering near record-setting Wi-Fi network performance.
When Kyle Field opened for Texas A&M's 2015 football season on
Sept. 12, happy fans took to social media to praise their
best-in-class connectivity - with one user proudly tweeting his
network speed test results.
"Today, the Aggies are among the most connected
fans anywhere, with a DAS network capable of delivering coverage
for all four leading service providers, and a Wi-Fi network capable
of handling a 100,000 photos uploaded to social media every
second," said Mike O'Day, vice president of Wireless Networks for
Corning Optical Communications. "Plus, the ONE platform enables
multiple point-of-sales systems, a network of IPTVs, and it stands
ready to tackle anything else Texas A&M adds in the
future."
