Highlights from our FB Report include:
- About News Feed - On July 31,
2015, the online social networking service provider,
Facebook, Inc. published an update over a tool on its website, News
Feed. According to the Company, the main purpose of News Feed is to
show a user, the content that matters to him the most. It is
basically the actions that people take on Facebook i.e. the likes,
comments and sharing of a post, which helps the Company to
determine what they should show at the top of a user's News Feed.
In order to have a better understanding of the kind of stories the
user doesn't enjoy, the Company has offered an option to hide
stories from their News Feeds.
- A Better Understanding of 'Hide'
- This option allows the users to hide stories they don't
like, however, it was observed that most of them use this feature
very occasionally. Hiding something is usually a strong indication
that someone didn't want to see a particular post, said the Company
while elaborating more on 'Hide'. Besides, there is a small group
of users on Facebook who choose to hide almost every post in their
News Feed even after liking or commenting on them. For such a
group, hiding a story is not a very strong negative signal, as is
very likely that these people may still want to see similar stories
in future. The Company informed that they have made a small update
to News Feed for this group only. Through this update to News Feed,
Facebook aims to serve this small group better, by not taking into
account their 'Hide' as strongly as they used to. As a result, this
group of people has started seeing more stories from the Pages and
friends they are connected to than in the past. Overall, this tweak
helps this group see more of the stuff they are interested in.
- Another New Feature:
'Security Checkup' - Previously on
July 30, 2015, Facebook published
another update over Security Checkup. With an objective to provide
its users a safe experience, the Company has provided optional
security controls that can be turned on for added protection. From
July 30 onwards, users would be able
to try a new tool known as Security Check-up that would allow them
to find and use the security controls for their account. Moreover,
in next few weeks, they would also see a reminder at the top of
their News Feed which would prompt them to check their security
settings. Facebook said that they want everyone to have a safe
experience on Facebook, and to ensure that, they have dedicated
teams and intelligent security systems working around the clock.
The news Security Checkup option is available globally on
desktop/laptops.
