PARIS--French consumer spending was almost stable for the second month in a row in May, data showed Tuesday.

Consumer spending in the eurozone's second largest economy rose 0.1% on the month in May after zero change in April, statistics bureau Insee said. April's figure was revised from a previous reading of +0.1%.

Economists polled by The Wall Street Journal had expected a 0.1% decline on the month in May.

Spending on energy and durable goods rebounded slightly in May, but consumers pared back spending on clothes and household furnishings.

Compared with May 2014, total consumer spending rose 1.8%, out-pacing economist expectations of a 1.6% rise.
