Publication details the company’s strides in building a culture of sustainability and in making a positive difference around the world

IHS Inc. (NYSE: IHS), the leading global source of critical information and insight, today announced the publication of its 2014 Sustainability Report. The report, which is available online, provides an update on the previous year’s progress -- including an increase in transparency around some important sustainability metrics -- and highlights upcoming sustainability goals and objectives.

Among its major achievements for 2014, IHS contributed more than 22,000 hours of volunteer time supporting the global communities in which it operates and serves, and continued its focus on supporting education, the environment and improvements in health and wellness. In addition, the company was named for the second straight year to the Dow Jones North America Sustainability Index and was included in the 2015 RobecoSAM Sustainability Yearbook, receiving the Bronze class distinction. IHS is also included in four different MSCI indexes demonstrating the company’s progress on its major ESG initiatives.

“We are proud of the progress that IHS has made in sustainability,” said Jerre Stead, IHS Chairman and CEO. “These achievements are a reflection of our incredible colleagues at IHS who work with a sustainable mindset and an approach that benefits society, the environment and enables the long-term profitable growth that drives value creation for shareholders.

“Like many of today’s leading companies, IHS recognizes that sustainability is a business imperative, one that can help us to create new and innovative products, reduce costs and maintain our license to operate,” Stead said.

“From the beginning, we designed our sustainability program to ensure that IHS was structured for long-term success in a complex and changing world,” said Jane Okun Bomba, senior vice president and chief sustainability, IR & communications officer for IHS. “We believe that sustainability and business growth are complementary; our own success and future as a company are inseparable from the success and future of the world around us.”

The report details the measurable ways in which IHS colleagues directly shape a sustainable culture by engaging in community outreach activities and in giving back through volunteering and team-driven community improvement efforts. Highlights to the IHS sustainability program in 2014 include an updated materiality analysis, reevaluated goals and commitments across the business, greater detail into social reporting as well as Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) analysis based on G-4 guidelines. These added elements lend insight and transparency into how sustainability is embedded within IHS and throughout the company’s culture.
