Labour Force Survey (LFS), March 2015:

Number of employees increased by 65 000

In March 2015, 4 767 000 persons aged 15-74 were employed, not seasonally adjusted. This is an increase of 66 000 persons compared to March 2014. The number of unemployed persons was 414 000, corresponding to an unemployment rate of 8.0 percent. The number of hours worked averaged 159.4 million per week. Smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows a continuing increase in the number of employed persons and an unemployment rate of 7.7 percent.

In March 2015 the number of employed persons aged 15-74 amounted to 4 767 000, not seasonally adjusted. This corresponds to an increase of 66 000 when compared to March 2014. The employment rate among persons aged 15-74 was 65.8 percent. Compared to previous months the smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows an increase in the number of employed persons, while the employment rate only shows minor changes. In March 2015 the number of employed persons amounted to 4 819 000 which corresponds to an employment rate of 66.6 percent.

On average, the number of hours worked in March 2015 amounted to 159.4 million per week, not seasonally adjusted. Smoothed and seasonally adjusted data shows a continuing increase, although at a slower rate compared to previous months. The number of hours worked amounted to 146.6 million per week in March 2015.

The number of employees aged 15-74 amounted to 4 264 000, not seasonally adjusted. This corresponds to an increase of 65 000 when compared to March 2014. The number of permanently employed persons amounted to 3 567 000, an increase of 63 000 when compared to March 2014, and the number of temporary employees amounted to 697 000.

In March 2015 the number of unemployed persons aged 15-74 amounted to 414 000, not seasonally adjusted, corresponding to an unemployment rate of 8.0 percent. This is a decrease of 0.6 percentage points compared to March 2014. The number of unemployed men was 223 000 and the number of unemployed women was 192 000, not seasonally adjusted. For men, this corresponds to an unemployment rate of 8.2 percent and for women 7.8 percent. Smoothed and seasonally adjusted data show a small decrease of the number of unemployed and minor changes in the unemployment rate. The number of unemployed amounted to 404 000 in March 2015, which corresponds to an unemployment rate of 7.7 percent.
