FORT WORTH, Texas, April 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Con-way
Freight, a less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier and subsidiary of
Con-way Inc. (NYSE: CNW), announced today that Dana Boles, service center manager of its
Dallas service center, was
presented with the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR)
Patriot Award.
Boles was nominated for the award by Con-way Freight Driver
Sales Representative and U.S. Army Reserve Specialist Jaron Mullins to recognize the ongoing support
Boles and Con-way Freight has provided him since joining the
company and throughout his deployment.
"I joined Con-way Freight in 2011, and it has been the most
supportive company I've worked for," said Mullins. "Since day one,
Dana and the team always made me feel proud of my service and
secure in my job, especially during my deployment. It makes a huge
difference knowing they are behind me 100 percent and are helping
me successfully balance both my military service needs and
career."
Mullins started his career with Con-way Freight as a dockworker,
enrolling in the company's driver training school shortly after to
attain a commercial driver's license, after which he was promoted
into the role of professional driver. He has served in the Army
since 2008 with overseas deployment from Nov. 2013 to Sept.
2014 in Haiti and
Afghanistan.
The Patriot Award was created by ESGR, a Department of Defense
office, to publicly recognize employers who believe in a strong
National Guard and Reserve. Employers qualify for recognition when
they demonstrate leadership and promote personnel policies that
encourage employee participation in the Guard and Reserve.
"Supporting our nation's service members is part of our culture
at Con-way Freight," said Boles. "While I never expected to receive
an award for working with Jaron on balancing both a career in
trucking and military service, I'm truly honored and hope that we
can be an example of how to provide professional support and
development to all military service members in any industry."
Con-way Freight offers its employee-soldiers pay differentials
and uninterrupted health benefits for their families during the
first year of a deployment. The company's human resources
representatives maintain contact with soldiers' families to ensure
that they understand all available benefits, while employee
volunteers also provide outreach to families, assisting them with
everyday challenges such as home maintenance, auto repairs and snow
removal.
For employees on active duty, the company sends care packages
full of items like soap, shampoo and magazines. Upon return from
active duty, employees are reinstated to the same or equal job, pay
and grade level. If an employee needs to move for a returning job,
the company pays relocation expenses. To help employees readjust to
civilian life, Con-way's Employee Assistance Program provides
access to counseling through the company's health benefit
plans.
Today, Con-way employs more than 2,700 military service
veterans, including members of the National Guard and Reserve.
