Frontier Offers Tips to Prepare for
Potential Severe Weather, Blizzard
Remember: Traditional corded phones work
during power outages
Frontier Communications’ operations teams in Connecticut are
continuing their preparations for severe winter weather that is
anticipated to begin impacting the Northeast.
Operations teams and Frontier management are taking steps to
prepare including:
- equipping fleet vehicles with extra
fuel, fluids and lighting;
- double-checking all safety equipment
and supplies used by field technicians;
- placing emergency network supplies
throughout company facilities; and
- taking inventory of supplies that may
be needed in the aftermath of severe weather for network restoral
(more than 1,000 poles on hand).
As part of its preparations, the company is issuing these
reminders:
- Stay far away from any downed cables or
power lines and report them to your local municipality.
- For service disruptions, contact
Frontier at 800-921-8102 (business) or 800-921-8101 (residential)
to report any disruptions in service.
- Take preventative steps to be sure you
can communicate in the event of a commercial power outage,
such as:
- Customers who rely on cordless phones
should consider plugging a traditional corded phone directly into
the wall jack. In the event of a commercial power outage
affecting your home, corded phones do not require electricity and
will still operate; cordless ones, or phones that need to be
plugged into an electrical outlet, will not. If commercial
power is unavailable to Frontier’s network facilities, generators
and batteries serve as a backup so that phone service will remain
available.
- Customers who have Frontier Voice (also
known as VoIP service) should ensure the backup battery provided
when the service was installed is connected. The backup battery
will offer several hours of service in the event of a power
outage.
- Customers’ voicemail boxes are
protected within Frontier’s network and will continue to operate
despite a power loss.
- Be sure wireless devices such cell
phones, laptops and tablet devices are all charged in advance of
the severe weather.
- Make sure you have food supplies,
water, flashlights and a battery powered radio in case you are
unable to leave your home.
“We know how critical our network is for public safety and the
well-being of our customers. That’s why Frontier employees are
working non-stop to prepare for potential severe weather that may
be of blizzard magnitude,” said Paul Quick, Senior Vice President
and General Manager of Frontier’s Connecticut operations. “We’re
monitoring weather reports, staying in contact with local emergency
personnel, prepping equipment and securing additional supplies.
While no one can predict the future or exactly what this storm will
bring, our teams are doing everything possible to ensure their
readiness. We will be there for our residential and business
customers after the storm if necessary to restore service as
quickly and safely as possible.”
Individuals who currently subscribe to phone service through a
cable provider or who use cell phones exclusively and want to
prepare themselves in the future for potential outages may contact
Frontier at 800-921-8101 to learn more about Frontier service
options.
