World’s Largest 8K Road Race Signals the Beginning of the Spring Running Season With 40,000 Runners

Registration for the 2015 Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K opens today at 1 p.m. Central Time. The classic road race is an annual tradition for Chicago area runners looking for a fun outdoor activity in the heart of the city. The Shamrock Shuffle will be held on Sunday, March 29, and will welcome 40,000 runners on its hallmark course that weaves its way through Chicago’s Loop, starting and finishing in Grant Park. Runners can register online at shamrockshuffle.com. The registration fee is $50 and registration will close when the 40,000-runner capacity is reached.

In its 36th year, the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K has grown from a small local event into the world’s largest 8K (4.97-mile) road race. The third-largest running event in Chicago, the Shamrock Shuffle ranks among the 10 largest races in the U.S. and 25 largest in the world. Its size is a tribute to the enthusiasm and spirit of Chicago’s running community, with more than 90 percent of Shamrock Shuffle participants hailing from Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.

“For more than three decades, the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K has given Chicago runners a reason to lace up their running shoes during the winter season and stay healthy going into a new year,” said Executive Race Director Carey Pinkowski. “We’re excited local runners continue to choose the Shamrock Shuffle; it’s a real celebration of fitness in our city.”

The Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K welcomes participants of all ability levels who are beginning their annual running and fitness regimen, from Olympic-caliber athletes to runners participating in their first organized road race to those targeting the Bank of America Chicago Marathon in October. The Shamrock Shuffle also hosts popular team competitions at both the elite and non-elite levels. The end result is a fun-filled race weekend experience that celebrates running and fitness in Chicago.

In advance of the event, the two-day Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle Health & Fitness Expo will take place at McCormick Place on Friday, March 27, and Saturday, March 28, featuring more than 80 industry-related exhibitors.
