SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Teachers and
students in Salt Lake City had
something to celebrate today as AT&T Aspire revealed it "flash
funded" all projects listed by 162 teachers on the education crowd
funding site DonorsChoose.org in Salt
Lake City. In total, 170 projects were fulfilled, benefiting
17,595 of Salt Lake City's
students totaling $220,760. Classroom
projects ranged from supplies for geology and science projects; to
theatre projects; to early readers projects focused on
technology.
"We know students need the right resources and tools to succeed,
so we are thrilled to work with DonorsChoose.org to fulfill
Salt Lake City's projects," said
Tara Thue, Director of External
Affairs- AT&T Utah. "This is one more way that AT&T Aspire
is helping students thrive in classrooms across the country."
"This came as a great surprise to so many of our teachers who
work hard every day to bring innovative ways to reach our students
in the classroom. To know that others recognize their ideas and
support their creativity in reaching students is great to see. We
thank AT&T and DonorsChoose for
this 'flash' of support that helps both our teachers and students
as a capital city for education," said Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker.
AT&T Aspire is the company's signature education initiative
that invests in students today – at home, in the classroom, at work
– to prepare them for success tomorrow. AT&T previously
supported several DonorsChoose.org initiatives as part of its
$350 million planned commitment to
education.
"We're proud to call AT&T a partner, and we're grateful for
their overwhelming support of Salt Lake
City area classrooms," said Charles
Best, founder and CEO of DonorsChoose.org. "This
contribution will mean a great deal to the teachers and students
they've helped."
About DonorsChoose
Founded in 2000, DonorsChoose.org
makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. At this
nonprofit website, teachers at half of all the public schools in
America have created project requests, and more than a million
people have donated $265 million to
projects that inspire them. All told, 12 million students—most
from low-income communities, and many in disaster-stricken
