Exelis (NYSE:XLS) has been recognized by Northrop Grumman Corporation’s (NYSE:NOC) Aerospace Systems sector as its 2013 Supplier of the Year in the Subcontracts category. The award was earned by the Exelis business in Bohemia, N.Y., for its work on antenna subsystems and landing technology for the F-35 Lightning II.

Exelis was graded on a range of parameters, including the quality of its workmanship, cost management, adherence to delivery schedules and program management. The Supplier of the Year awards are reserved for a select few of Northrop Grumman Corporation’s worldwide supply chain of subcontractors that consistently demonstrate superior performance.

“Exelis went above and beyond to ensure that Northrop Grumman delivered the highest quality product to our customers in 2013,” said Lisa Kohl, vice president of global supply chain management for Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems. “The Exelis team has consistently shown an unwavering commitment to affordability, responsiveness and innovation.”

As a lead supplier of antennas and sensor-data processing technology to Northrop Grumman for the F-35 Lightning II program, Exelis applied ingenuity and agility to meet critical customer needs. In one instance, Exelis significantly shortened the delivery schedule for key aircraft antennas from 36 weeks to less than 14. The company also delivered substantial cost savings through technology redesigns and the streamlining of manufacturing processes.

“The collaborative working relationship between Northrop Grumman and Exelis has allowed our companies to deliver advanced and affordable technology to the F-35 Lightning II program,” said Pete Martin, director of the Exelis electronic attack and release systems business area. “We are proud to receive this recognition and look forward to working together on future endeavors.”

In addition to the antenna subsystems and landing technology that it supplies to Northrop Grumman, Exelis also supplies advanced pneumatic carriage and release systems and more than 200 precision-engineered composite aerostructures for every F-35 Lightning II.
