MOSCOW--Russia has indefinitely suspended imports of canned vegetables, fruits and fish from Ukraine beginning Tuesday, the country's chief consumer regulator said on its website Monday.

The regulator, Rospotrebnadzor, cited violations of legal requirements relating to the protection of consumer rights by several Ukrainian producers, from improper labeling to lack of nutrients and insufficient mass in sold goods.

After inspecting a number of factories and canning facilities last week the regulator made a decision to install an indefinite ban, the statement said.

Late last week the Russian agriculture regulator banned imports of Ukrainian milk and milk products, which took effect Monday.
