NEW YORK, June 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- DNAinfo.com
New York, the city's leading neighborhood news source,
congratulates its Criminal Justice Editor and "On the Inside"
Columnist Murray Weiss for winning a top New York Press Club Award
for his reporting on the Baby Hope murder investigation. It's his
third Press Club award since joining DNAinfo.com four years
ago.
Weiss was the first to report that the NYPD had cracked the
"Baby Hope" murder case, which had
been unsolved since 1991 when an unidentified 4-year-old girl was
found dead in a cooler in Washington
Heights, by identifying the child's mother. He also broke
the story when the prime suspect, the girl's cousin, was
arrested.
His coverage not only chronicled how police finally solved the
22-year-old murder, but also the emotional aspects of the case,
from the toll it took on the detective who first tried to solve it
to the joy of police and residents when Anjelica Castillo's name replaced Baby Hope on her headstone.
"Weiss has been following the Baby
Hope case since it happened, and kept tabs on the NYPD's
renewed investigation into the unsolved murder last year," said
Michael. P. Ventura, managing editor, DNAinfo.com New
York. "We're proud that his outstanding reporting was
recognized with a New York Press Club award."
