LOS ANGELES, May 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Medbox, Inc. (OTCQB: MDBX) (www.medbox.com), a leader in providing ancillary services to the alternative medicine industry, dispensary consulting services, and patented medicine dispensing systems to medical and retail industries, commented today on the news that the U.S. House of Representatives voted to effectively end DEA intervention in legal medical marijuana operations.

The House passed the amendment late Thursday night, which restricts the Drug Enforcement Administration from targeting medical marijuana operations in states where it is legal.

The 219-189 decision came on a bipartisan appropriations amendment spearheaded by California Republican Rep. Dana Rohrabacher and California Democrat Sam Farr.

Rep. Earl Blumenauer, Democrat from Oregon, stated, "The conflicting nature of state and federal marijuana laws has created an untenable situation," according to the Huffington Post. "It's time we take the federal government out of the equation so medical marijuana business owners operating under state law aren't living in constant fear of having their doors kicked down in the middle of the night."

"We are pleased that the United States House of Representatives has voted to end federal interference with dispensary operations in those states where these activities are considered legal," said Dr. Bruce Bedrick, Chief Executive Officer of Medbox, Inc. "As the industry's leading proponent of sensible cannabis regulations, we are gratified to see that federal lawmakers now accept that individual states' regulatory agencies are best equipped to manage their own cannabis industries. We believe this is a big step forward for dispensary operators and those who provide products and services to this growing market."

Currently 22 states and the District of Columbia allow marijuana use for medicinal purposes. Five others don't allow smoking of the plant, but do allow CBD oil – an ingredient in marijuana that may treat epilepsy.
