BROOMFIELD, Colo., April 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Level 3
Communications, Inc. (NYSE: LVLT), which delivers some of the
most-watched sporting events in the world, today announced the
University of Notre Dame can now
support the delivery of professional quality, high-definition
broadcasts using Level 3's Vyvx VenueNet Lite technology.
"We were looking for a reliable, turnkey broadcast solution that
could be used at several of our sporting venues, offering the same
level of quality that's delivered by professional sports
broadcasts," said Dan Skendzel, Sr.
Associate Athletics Director for Digital Media and Branding at the
University of Notre Dame. "Level 3's
VenueNet Lite solution allows us to use our existing campus fiber
network to connect three of our athletic venues and our on-campus
studio – all without the need for satellite trucks."
"When it comes to sports, if you can't be in the stadium
cheering for your favorite team, the next best thing is to watch it
live on TV," said Mark Taylor, vice
president of Media and IP Services at Level 3. "Through Level
3's Vyvx VenueNet Lite service, Notre
Dame fans can enjoy the best possible viewing experience for
all home football and hockey games, as well as other programming
featuring coaches, analysts and fans."
The Vyvx VenueNet Lite service provides a centralized solution
for colleges and universities that uses existing fiber
infrastructure to connect all major sports locations on the campus
– expediting the video feed booking process and eliminating the
need for satellite trucks. The service is supported by a 24x7
operations team. Universities currently using the service include
the University of Arizona, the
University of Florida, Arizona State University, Clemson University, Oregon
State University, the University of
Nebraska and the University of Oregon.
Vyvx VenueNet Lite also serves as an acquisition point for the
Level 3 Video Cloud. The Level 3 Video Cloud is a full suite of
IP-based video services designed to support content delivery
throughout its life cycle, from signal acquisition to delivery to
viewers. Services include live Vyvx broadcast video acquisition,
