4G chipmaker Sequans Communications S.A. (NYSE: SQNS) announced
that Linkem, the leading WiMAX service provider in Italy now
transitioning to LTE, is offering its customers a dual-mode
LTE/WiMAX device powered by Sequans’ dual-mode LTE/WiMAX
technology. This strategy enables Linkem customers to access the
Internet using either WiMAX or LTE technology from the same device
without any disruption in service.
“Sequans’ dual-mode WiMAX/LTE technology enables us to realize
our strategy of transitioning from WiMAX to LTE while offering our
customers a seamless user experience and while protecting our
investment in WiMAX,” said Rino Buccio, CTO, Linkem. “The
Sequans-powered dual-mode device operates anywhere in our service
area, delivering advanced 4G connectivity, WiMAX or LTE, in a way
completely transparent to our customers”.
The dual-mode device is manufactured by Gemtek, a long-time
manufacturing partner of Sequans. Linkem offers two models of the
device, one for indoor use and one for outdoor use, both equipped
with Wi-Fi, that bring high speed internet directly to customer
homes without the need of a fixed line. The devices are based on
Sequans’ Mont Blanc WiMAX/LTE Platform, part of its 4Sight program
of dual-mode products and solutions.
“We developed our 4Sight products and solutions in direct
response to the needs of WiMAX service providers like Linkem who
are transitioning to LTE,” said Georges Karam, Sequans CEO. “Using
our 4Sight technology, Linkem can rollout LTE at the rate they
choose without any inventory risk, because there is no need to
replace devices as LTE becomes available. These benefits accrue to
any operator adopting 4Sight to facilitate a WiMAX to LTE
transition.”
Sequans is the world’s only provider of a dual-mode WiMAX/LTE
single-die chip. The chip, the SQN5120, is at the heart of Sequans
Mont Blanc WiMAX/LTE platform and is the key component of Sequans’
4Sight network migration initiative for WiMAX operators moving to
LTE. 4Sight provides advanced co-existence intelligence, a complete
dual-4G protocol stack and software package, and dual-4G reference
designs for a variety of device types.
Linkem is the leading provider of wireless broadband services in
Italy. Via its proprietary network, operating at 3.5 GHz and
covering every region in Italy, Linkem provides high speed internet
directly to residences, without the need for a fixed line
connection and without the limitations of USB internet keys.
