Repurposed Film by 4K Studios Will Be Streamed
by UltraFlix Distribution Service and Delivered in 4K on the
Award-Winning Nuvola NP-1 Media Player
NanoTech Entertainment (NanoTech) (OTCPINK: NTEK) announced
today its 4K Studios, a NanoTech subsidiary, has completed an
agreement for the conversion of sci-fi thriller, Mantera, to 4K
Ultra HD. NanoTech has entered into a global distribution agreement
with Global New Age Media (GNAM®), the largest content provider in
Dubai, for distribution of the film with UltraFlix™, NanoTech’s
streaming 4K Ultra HD service.
UltraFlix will deliver the film at four times the resolution of
full HD on a variety of devices including NanoTech’s award-winning
Nuvola NP-1™ 4K Ultra HD streaming media player. Debuted to the
public this month at the International CES show, the Nuvola NP-1 is
powered by the NVIDIA® Tegra® 4 and can stream 4K Ultra HD movies
such as the Mantera film. The NP-1 can also stream videos in HD, SD
and 3D formats, as well as 4K. With streaming capabilities, users
do not have to wait for downloads or use up the capacity of their
drives to store large files.
First released in 2012, Mantera was filmed in Dubai, Moscow and
Kuala Lumpur, giving it broad international appeal. The
action-packed film combines computer-generated imagery (CGI) and
live action to tell the story of a brave young man who saves
Mantera (Man Transformable Exo-Robotic Armour) from falling into
the wrong hands.
“By working with 4K Studios to convert Mantera into 4K Ultra HD,
we’re providing viewers with a new, more exciting entertainment
experience,” said Mr. Fayez Sabbagh, Chairman of GNAM. “Mantera
combines CGI and live action; and when we saw a preview of the film
that was converted to 4K, the results were amazing. There’s just no
comparison between CGI HD and CGI Ultra HD,” according to
Sabbagh.
NanoTech Vice President of Development, Alex “LX” Rudis agreed
and explained why 4K Studio’s conversion process doesn’t just
involve upscaling. He said, “Upscaled content is muddy and full of
artifacts. It’s just not acceptable for consumers who pay for and
expect the true 4K resolution experience.”
4K Studios combines 4K Ultra HD motion picture film-scanning
systems with its proprietary post-production processing technology
to ensure the content it converts to 4K resolution is clean, crisp
and noise free. The scanners are used to make multiple
digitizations of each frame of the original 35mm film (or even
16mm) at different light levels in red, green and blue until an HDR
4K image is created for every frame of the film. At the same time,
the audio track image from the film is scanned and put into a
synchronized audio file.
During scanning, the film is run through a state-of-the-art film
processing procedure to repair many of the defects and scratches in
the film. The output from this procedure is saved into an
uncompressed file and then run through 4K’s proprietary process
which compensates for the frame-by-frame deltas in textures, colors
and lighting. Once the automated scan is completed, 4K Studios’
editors view the video scene-by-scene, applying gamma and lighting
corrections. Any remaining scratches or defects are then repaired
by hand. Finally, the master files are compressed using multiple
codecs and a variety of proprietary methods and settings which
results in final files ready for streaming delivery.
