MMRGlobal Receives 9th HIT Patent for Secure Web-Based Wireless
Access to Protected Health Information Files
LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - Dec 19, 2013) - MMRGlobal, Inc.
(OTCQB: MMRF), through its wholly owned subsidiary
MyMedicalRecords, Inc. (collectively, "MMR"), today announced that
MMR has received an Issue Notification from the United States
Patent and Trademark Office for U.S. Patent No. 8,626,532 entitled
"Method for Providing a User with a Web-based Service for Accessing
and Collecting Health Records." The patent is MMR's ninth U.S.
patent and enables users to access and collect their medical
records in a secure and private manner using wireless devices such
as smartphones, tablets or telemedicine platforms, amongst other
systems, allowing users to communicate with healthcare providers,
manage prescriptions and perform other functions privately, and
securely access and share their protected health information
wherever and whenever they need to. The patent also features
enhanced security, allowing patients to protect their most
sensitive and personal information in segregated password protected
files.
The patent includes 27 claims representing a significant
addition to MMR's existing U.S. patent portfolio which will now
include nine issued patents, one notice of allowance which will
represent the Company's tenth U.S. patent, as well as 18 other
pending U.S. applications. MMR is a practicing entity and a
leading provider of Personal Health Records, MyEsafeDepositBox
storage solutions and MMRPro document management and imaging
systems for healthcare professionals. Additionally, the MMR
patent portfolio includes issued patents and pending applications
in other countries or regional authorities of commercial interest
including Australia, Singapore, New Zealand, Mexico, Japan, Canada,
China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Israel, and Europe.
MMRGlobal CEO Robert H. Lorsch said, "Based on the comprehensive
nature of the Company's growing patent portfolio, we are signing
agreements with institutional investor funds that specialize in
helping companies with significant intellectual property portfolios
manufacture, distribute and license their products and services.
This newest patent is additive to MMR in that it allows for
Web-enabled wireless devices to provide secure access to one's
personal, protected health information in a disaster or emergency
situation (www.mmrontv.com). The patent is also designed to
allow doctors, paramedics and hospitals access to a patient's
complete medical file from any doctor, hospital or healthcare
professional anywhere in the world regardless of the underlying
manner in which it was originally created such as plain paper or
any eHealth system."
The newest patent follows MMR's U.S. Patent No. 8,498,883 (the
"883 Patent"), received on July 30th this year and entitled "Method
for Providing a User with a Service for Accessing and Collecting
Prescriptions." The '883 patent has 28 claims directed toward
providing users with the ability to access and manage prescriptions
online by including features for sending prescriptions to the
pharmacy, accessing prescriptions from the pharmacy, sending
reminders and scheduling prescription refills, and identifying
adverse drug interactions. On December 13, 2013, MMR filed a
second complaint for patent infringement against Walgreen Co. in
the United States District Court Central District of California,
Case No. 2:13-cv-9214, relating to the '883 Patent. Additional MMR
patent infringement complaints involving the '883 Patent have also
been filed against Allscripts and Quest Diagnostics.
