NEW DELHI--Jaguar Land Rover, the U.K.-based unit of Tata Motors
Ltd. (500570.BY), Thursday posted a 7% increase in its vehicle
sales in June to 33,739 vehicles.
Sales of Jaguar cars rose 34% from a year earlier to 6,574,
while those of Land Rover sport-utility vehicles gained 2% to
27,165 vehicles.
Sales in the first six months of 2013 rose 14% to 210,190
vehicles. This included 37,636 Jaguar cars, an increase of 29% from
the year-earlier period. Sale of Land Rover SUVs climbed 11% in the
same period to 172,554 automobiles.
Phil Popham, Jaguar Land Rover's director for sales operations,
attributed the improved sales performance in the first half to
strong demand for new models, including the new Range Rover. Sales
of Range Rover SUVs topped 22,000 units so far.
Jaguar will start selling its new F-Type sports convertible in
China later July. It introduced the car in India on Monday. The
company sold 1,000 units of the F-Type globally in June.
The company said its sales grew 26% in the Asian-Pacific region
in the first half of 2013. Sales in North America increased 13% and
in Europe, they expanded 6%. Sales in both China and the U.K. grew
16%.
