KASSEL, Germany, June 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Biozoom (OTC QB:
BIZM)
Consistent use of the Biozoom (BIZM) scanner has been shown to
help young people make better lifestyle choices, leading to
long-term health improvement. Results of a study by Charite
University Hospital Berlin found that some adolescents—an audience
that often resists calls for healthier living by parents and
teachers—made healthier choices on their own after the Biozoom
scanner enabled them to see the benefits of those choices. At the
end of the study, 83% of participants had higher levels of
antioxidants than before, and 20% of the students who smoked had
quit smoking. For details regarding this study, see Part 6 Exhibit
99.1 in Biozoom's Current Report on Form 8-K filed on May 31, 2013.
Charite analyzed 50 students of a vocational school in Kassel,
Germany with the Biozoom scanner
for a period of 2 months. Over the first month, the adolescents
were asked not to change their lifestyle or stress conditions. They
were measured without being informed of the results. In the second
month, they were instructed to make conscious choices to eat
healthy foods and reduce stress as far as possible. During this
month, they were shown the results of their Biozoom scans. "The
young people were initially skeptical of the idea that the ability
to measure their antioxidant levels would have any significant
effect. But the Biozoom scans allowed them to communicate with
their bodies in a new way, and the effect was remarkable," said Dr.
Jurgen Lademann, who led the study.
Not only did antioxidant levels increase, but all of the students
also reported an eagerness to improve their values by desisting
from alcohol consumption and smoking. Six months later, the
students were scanned again—without advance notice—to determine if
their changes were long term.
"In nearly every case, the students reported that they had
neglected to follow the healthy lifestyle advice they had received
from parents and teachers, but seeing the results of their
biofeedback scans changed their minds," Dr. Lademann said.
Antioxidants are widely considered to be important in
maintaining health and wellness, but until now there has been no
practical way for consumers to measure their antioxidant levels.
While laboratory-based tests exist, they are expensive, time
consuming and not practical for use outside of a clinic. The
Biozoom scanner changes that: "Before we used the Biozoom scanner
in the field, we conducted studies comparing its results with the
Raman spectrometer we have used for 10 years," said Dr.
Jurgen Lademann. "The correlation
between the two is very high." Biozoom enabled researchers to scan
the students conveniently, at school.
"This study gives us a glimpse of the profound effect the
Biozoom scanner can have on behavior. It is one thing to know
intellectually that adopting a healthy lifestyle is beneficial,"
said Biozoom's CEO Hardy Hoheisel,
himself a triathlete and fitness enthusiast. "It is quite another
to be able to see improvements day by day and week by week. We
believe that the Biozoom scanner will have a tremendous impact. It
is so simple that anyone can use it anywhere to actively manage
their wellness."
