International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (ICAGY, IAG.MC, IAG.LN) is mulling the purchase of a minority stake in American Airlines, and is hoping to ensure the U.S. carrier stays in the OneWorld Alliance, The Financial Times reports on its website Sunday.
Willie Walsh, the chief executive of International Airlines, said the idea of buying a stake in American Airlines "is something we are going to look at," the FT reported.
He also said he supported a merger between American and US Airways Group Inc. (LCC), the FT said.
AMR Corp. (AAMRQ) is the parent of American Airlines.
