FRANKFURT--A German court Thursday rejected a suit brought by Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) against Google Inc.'s (GOOG) Motorola Mobility unit over a patent concerning event management in an operating system, a court spokesman said.
The patent, EP1304891, governs the monitoring of such events as battery charge level, alarms, GPS co-ordinates and storage space, and the providing of that information to applications that use it for displays or other purposes.
Microsoft said in a statement it plans to appeal the ruling.
A spokeswoman for Motorola said the company is pleased with the court's decision.
A ruling on another suit brought by Microsoft against Motorola over alleged infringement of a patent on system input methods, EP1040406, has been postponed to Sept. 20, the court spokesman said.
