Thousands of AT&T Inc. (T) landline employees in California and Nevada held walkouts Friday, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The Communications Workers of America union said the move was a protest against unfair contract demands including an increase in health-care costs, the newspaper reported. A union spokeswoman said the walkout was only expected to last for one day, the report said.
An AT&T spokesman said the company continues to seek a fair contract with the union, the Los Angeles Times reported. The spokesman said AT&T is "thoroughly prepared" in the event of a strike.
