Chesapeake Energy Corp. (CHK) chief executive Aubrey McClendon has hired defense attorney Marvin Pickholz, who was once a director of enforcement at the Securities and Exchange Commission, to counsel him in connection to an inquiry into $1.3 billion in personal loans, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the situation.
Separately, Chesapeake has hired law firm Bracewell & Giuliani and partner Patrick Craine, also a former SEC staffer, to represent it in the probe, according to Reuters, citing sources.
A Chesapeake spokesman declined to comment to Reuters.
