Qantas Airways Ltd. (QAN.AU) said Friday that it has chosen engines made by CFM International, a joint venture between General Electric Co. (GE) and Safran SA (SAF.FR), to power its fleet of A320neo aircraft.
Qantas has ordered 78 of Airbus's upgraded and more fuel-efficient version of the A320.
Australia's flag carrier said CFM's LEAP-1A engines were chosen for the new aircraft because of their "performance, fuel efficiency and maintenance program".
Low-cost offshoot Jetstar is due to receive the airline's first A320neo in 2016.
CFM said in a statement that the order is worth $2 billion at list price.
