Contract chip maker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.'s (TSM) CEO and Chairman Morris Chang said Thursday Apple Inc.'s (AAPL) Steve Jobs changed the face of computing and defined the shape of mobile devices.
"We have lost a true visionary. He had created an unparalleled example of what innovation can do. It saddens me to think of how much more he had to offer the world. He will be missed deeply," Chang said in a statement.
Chang's comments come after Jobs, chairman and joint founder of Apple, died Wednesday in the U.S. following a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
TSMC is the world's largest contract maker of chips by revenue. It manufactures for Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM) and Broadcom Corp. (BRCM) which supply chips to Apple's iPad and iPhone.
Chang said earlier this year TSMC earns around US$6-US$7 in revenue from every smartphone, including iPhones, sold around the world.
